The Secretariats of the East African Community (EAC) and East African Business Council (EABC) have launched the 4th EAC-EABC Media Awards Competition.

Presiding over the launch today during the 1st Preparatory Meeting of the 7th EAC-EABC Media Summit at the Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala, Uganda, the Chair of the meeting Ms Joyce Mhaville who is also the Managing Director of ITV-Radio One of Tanzania said that submission of entries for the Awards was now open and that the competition was open to all bona fide practicing journalists/commentators from the East African Community Partner States of Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda.

"To qualify for the East African Media Awards 2015, all submissions must have been published or broadcast during the period 1st September 2013 to 15th December 2014", declared Ms. Mhaville.

She disclosed that the 4th EAC-EABC Media Award Competition consists of (9) nine categories as follows:
 EAC Secretary General's Award (Overall Winner)
  1. EABC Chairman's Award (Business Reporting);
  2. Green Award (Environment Reporting);
  3. Higher Education Reporting Award
  4. Political Reporting Award
  5. Agriculture and Food Security Award
  6. Photography Award
  7. Health Reporting Award
  8. Women Economic Empowerment Award
     
    The annual East African Media Awards is the premier regional competition for journalists, editors and commentators who cover/publish stories/articles/features and visual imagery promoting the East African Community (EAC) integration.
     
    The Head of Corporate Communication and Public Affairs at the EAC Secretariat noted "the Media Awards aim at reinforcing the critical role of the media in driving the integration agenda and seeks to reward, recognize and encourage journalistic talent across media platforms in the various aspects of regional cooperation".
     
    He said one may enter a maximum of three pieces per category; active website links for articles published online may be submitted by email, while print articles and radio/video clips may be submitted by email or post. Submissions in any of the above formats may also be done via the Awards website: http://www.eac.int/mediasummit/
     
    The Entries not originally published in English may be submitted but an accompanying English translation (for print/online articles and radio/TV scripts) must be provided. Detailed information on each category, formats for submission, additional guidelines for entry and the entry form can be accessed online from the Awards website: http://www.eac.int/mediasummit/
     
    Mr. Owora disclosed that the Prizes to be won include; cash prizes, Samsung tabs, camera, a trophy and a certificate, and a week-long attachment to Corporate Communication and Public Affairs Department at the EAC Secretariat.
     
    Entries must reach the EAC and EABC Secretariats by Friday15th February 2015. Entries after this date shall automatically be disqualified. Submissions by email should be sent to mediacentre@eachq.org or MediaAwards@eabc-online.com.
